PLATINUM

The Cohen Mint is proud to offer a spectacular one ounce platinum coin. This extremely rare and
valuable metal has been prized for its rarity and precious value for hundreds of years. Interestingly, little
bits of naturally occurring platinum would be discarded by Spaniards mining silver in the New World.
Since its melting point is significantly higher than silver, they treated it as a waste product that they were
unable to melt and use, and gave the metal the name "platina", roughly translated to "little silver".

Today this highly strategic and important metal is used not only in jewelry and investment, but plays a
crucial role in most heavy industry, as do most of the platinum group metals. Uses primarily include
catalysts, pharmaceutical and petroleum refinement, and other highly technical human activities central
to the global economy.
